Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Mobixa?

Mobixa is the consumer-facing arm of a company that's been in the business of refurbishing mobile phone handsets for eleven years. Before launching Mobixa, IMC, Inc worked only in the wholesale market, depending on partnerships with retailers and other companies that collected handsets from consumers. So you may have never heard of us before, but if you've ever traded in an old phone, there's a decent chance that we actually refurbished it. We're located in the Los Angeles area, and we employ about 200 people, who receive and process our handsets and prep them for resale.

If I sell you my phone, do I need to send my SIM or should I remove it?

That's up to you. In some cases, you may keep and resuse your SIM, and in others, your carrier will issue you a new SIM when you upgrade your phone. Whether you keep your SIM in the phone or remove it, the price quote you get from Mobixa will be the same.

Can I ship multiple phones in one box?

Right now, you need to generate a separate order with a separate label for each phone. We will be adding functionality to the site soon to allow for mulitple phones in one order.

Will you buy a phone with a bad ESN?

Yes we will. But we will assess a $25 bad ESN fee, because it's not as easy for us to resell bad ESN phones. To learn more about that, see our blog posting on that topic.

Does the shipping label that you sent to me include insurance?

Yes. If your phone is damaged in shipment, we will pay you the quoted rate immediately, and we'll deal with the insurance claim. Please pack your phone securely, but rest assured that as long as you accurately reported your phone's condition, you will be paid what you were quoted.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, you may cancel your order by clicking on the "cancel my order" button in the confirmation email you received, by calling us at (562) 6-MOBIXA, or by emailing us at support@mobixa.com

If I cancel I decide to cancel my order but have shipped the phone already, can my phone be returned?

Yes, we can send back your phone. Once we receive the phone, we'll need a couple of days for us to look for your package and send it back due to the amount of phones we receive each day. But if this happens, please contact us and we'll do our best to return your phone to you quickly.

How much will you pay for a factory unlocked phone?

Unfortunately, we can not pay extra for unlocked phones. If your phone is unlocked, you may be able to get a little more by selling it on eBay directly to someone who wants an unlocked phone, if you're willing to deal with the hassle.

Do you only buy iPhones? Will you buy my [insert phone name here]?

Right now, we only buy iPhones, and soon we'll also buy the Samsung GalaxyS 3. These are the phones that our resale partners have the greatest demand for. We allow you to enroll in our advisor service and specify that you're the owner of a wide variety of smartphones. So for example, if you have an HTC OneX, you can enroll, and if in the future we start buying those phones, we'll send you a notification and a price quote.

What do you do with the phones you buy?

We have partnerships with companies that resell or redistribute refurbished phone handsets. Sometimes we receive phones that are broken and unrepairable. In that case, we strip them for parts, so pretty much nothing ends up in the trash.

Can I buy an iPhone or other phone from you?

Right now, we don't actually sell our refurbished phones directly to the consumer, but if we ever change our minds, people who enroll in our Advisor Service will be the first to know.

How can I know whether I'm getting a good deal if I sell my phone to you?

We would encourage you to visit our top competitors such as Gazelle and Glyde and receive price quotes from them. If we don't beat their prices on your particular model, we'd like to know and we'll match their quote. You of course always have the option of selling your phone on eBay or Craigslist, and to be honest, sometimes you will get a better deal there, because you really never know what other people will pay for something. But in general, the price quotes we give are right in line with what you'd get on eBay, and that's before eBay charges you a 9% eBay fee and another 3% PayPal fee.

Do I need to include all of the original packaging and accessories when I send my phone?

That is optional. If you're not going to need them anymore, then please include them. But if you have lost or damaged any of the original cables or adaptors, leave them out. We don't need the original box or manuals, but feel free to ship your phone to us in the original box to protect it in-transit.

If I sign up for the advisor, are you going to spam me?

We will send you personalized notifications about your phone's value, the status of your upgrade eligibilty and information about the phones on your want list. You can unsubscribe or change your profile any time.

Can I sell you my phone if I live outside the United States?

Yes, but instead of going through the online sales process, please contact us by email or phone. You may still get a quote online, and we will honor that quote, but our online process will generate a United States Postal Service shipping label that you will not be able to use. Our online form also asks for a US address. You will be responsible for the cost of shipping your phone handset to us, and we will only be able to pay you if you have a PayPal account.

Why isn't [insert phone model here] on the Wish List?

We base the Wish List phones on what we determine to be the most popular current phones and most promising and anticipated upcoming phones. However, we're only human, so if you think we should add a phone that you're excited about, then we probably will. Email us about it
